Modern hearing aids come in many styles. During your hearing aid consultation, your audiologist will discuss the various styles, sizes, and manufacturers and help you choose the hearing aid that is right for you.
Behind the Ear (BTE)
The Behind the Ear hearing aid is the classic hearing aid. The case is hidden behind the ear and a custom-fit, clear tube rests within the ear canal. A Behind the Ear device is suitable for every type of hearing loss and is the best choice for clients with severe hearing loss. A Behind the Ear device is often the best choice for younger children.
Receiver in the Ear (RITE)
A Receiver in the Ear hearing aid is more discreet than the classic, Behind the Ear device. While the case is still worn behind the ear, the receiver rests inside the ear canal. Clients like the Receiver in the Ear design because it is easy to use and adjust and it is comfortable. Receiver in the Ear devices are useful for clients with mild to severe hearing loss.
In the Ear (ITE)
An In the Ear hearing aid is a custom-fit device that fits within the ridges of the outer ear. It is an excellent device for anyone with mild to severe hearing loss. It is also a good style choice for people with dexterity issues.
In the Canal (ITC)
An In the Canal hearing aid is worn inside the ear canal—no part of the device rests behind the ear. The In the Canal hearing aid may be noticeable to others if they are looking directly in the ear, but it is generally quite discreet. An In the Canal hearing aid is appropriate for most people with mild to severe hearing loss.
Completely in Canal (CIC)
A Completely in Canal hearing aid is completely custom-made and fixed deep within the ear canal, making it extremely discreet. Because it is virtually hidden within the ear canal, wind noise is greatly reduced with the Completely in Canal design. The Completely in Canal hearing aid is suitable for clients with mild to moderate hearing loss.
Invisible in Canal (IIC)
An Invisible in Canal is the most discreet hearing aid available and is the smallest hearing aid made. For most people, the Invisible in Canal is completely undetectable. This design is suitable for anyone with mild to moderate hearing loss. Invisible in Canal hearing aids provide a natural sound with minimal amplification.
